If that is so, then the Island has witnessed the passing of a giant last week with the death of John Gordon Lane, farmer, insurance agent and for the past 50 years the dominant political figure on Manitoulin Island. He was 85 years old. Mr. Gordon was born on Barrie Island on Aug , the son of the late George and Martha (Vancise) Lane.

The Gatchell brothers had a herd of dairy cows which supplied milk to residents in Copper Cliff and Sudbury.
